Why Should I use a Professional Pet Sitter?

One of the most frequently asked questions we hear is...

"Why use a Professional Pet Sitter?" There are several reasons to consider our services.

First of all, there is no place like home for your pets. In the United States alone it is estimated that 60% of households have at least one dog or cat. According to the Human Society pets are most happy when they are home, surrounded my their own sounds, smells and sights! The choice of a professional pet sitter eliminates the trauma of transporting, minimizes the exposure to illness and possible injury.

With in home pet care there is no need to inconvenience family and friends...who sometimes forget! In addition, there are several other services available while you are gone including crime deterrent measures, mail drop service, etc.

How can I find a Professional Pet Sitter in my area?

The National Association of Professional Pet Sitters has an established nationwide network of referrals. This organization will give you the address, telephone of a qualified, NAPPS member in your area. They are located at www.petsitters.org or by calling (800)296-pets.

The Posh Pooch is fully accredited by NAPPS as well as Pet Sitters International.

What should I look for in a professional sitter?

Of course, we at the Posh Pooch would like to be the company you choose for your next vacation, but the most important thing to us is the care of your animals, thus if you do decide to use another service here are a few things to ensure your pet

will have a happy and safe vacation.

While you are away the sitter should visit your home to feed and play with your pet. The sitter will be responsible for both your pet and your home, so select your sitter carefully.

Take the time to interview your sitter before you leave. A professional sitter will interview you, too...making sure she has all the details on your home and your pet.

Your sitter should be Licensed, Bonded & Insured for the protection of your home and your pet. Don't hesitate to request the proper credentialed paperwork.

Professional Pet Sitters should also offer several references. Don't be afraid to call and discuss with current clients their experiences with the service. We have several references on our site, but will provide contact info for more information.

Note how your pet sitter interacts with your animal. Pets are very intuitive and this could be a major sign!

Consultation Visit

Pet Sitters should visit your home prior to your leaving and take notes on the care of your pets and home. A detailed contract should be provided listing the expected charges and outline of services in your absence.  The sitter should have a vet on call for emergencies and should require a phone call upon your return to stop the service.
